It's no secret pregnancy weight is tough to shed; there is no magic quick-fix to lose the weight fast. These are things to keep in mind to lose baby weight effectively.

The baby is out and the last month or two were spent getting used to each other and recuperating. By this point, most new mothers are feeling almost back to normal and starting to have time to spend on themselves again. Weight begins to be a common focus.

Healthy Pregnancy

Pregnancy is not an excuse to let go and abandon restraint when it comes to eating and working out. A common reason for excessive weight gain during pregnancy is overindulging in salty snacks. Salt intake creates water weight, causing puffy looking ankles and faces. Water is responsible for 62 per cent of weight gain in pregnant mothers. Eating for two will make expectant mothers extra hungry and although vending machines and fast-food chains provide quick meals, healthy snacks can be made and taken to go for busy mothers-to-be.

Some believe when pregnant any work-out programs should be abandoned. Although it is important for expectant mothers not to push themselves, it is still possible to keep fit. Simple exercises like walking and prenatal yoga are useful for staying in ideal shape while not overdoing it. Staying fit during pregnancy allows for a smoother transition back into working out and can make delivery easier.

Postpartum Weight Loss

Unfortunately, stretched out stomach muscles won`t just go away with time. It takes dedication and discipline to strengthen and tone abdominal muscles to get the pre-pregnancy body back. After the first few weeks, light exercise can be fit into daily activities. The baby should not be used as an excuse for not exercising, there are plenty of ways to workout with baby in tow. Taking baby for a walk in the stroller is a good way to start. There are also some yoga classes designed for all stages of motherhood.

It is important to check with the doctor before beginning strenuous activities, and it would be overwhelming to attempt anything too hard in the beginning. Sticking to short, simple routines when starting out will make the process feasible and more enjoyable. Setting realistic goals like trying to fit in at least 20 minutes of working out throughout the course of the day and working up to more is an easy way to accomplish weight loss targets. Games like Wii Fit for the Nintendo Wii system and Yourself!Fitness for X-Box 360 are great products for making short workout routines fun.

Keep Pregnancy Weight Off

Once the initial pregnancy weight is shed and workout routines lose their appeal it can be tempting to give up on fitness programs, but keeping active is a vital part of overall health. As women start going back to work and getting into their old patterns it can be easy to forget about keeping healthy. New mothers should try and fit their simple exercise routines into once again busy schedules. Some will be surprised how easy it can be and the difference it will make on them day to day.

Losing pregnancy weight may be the initial goal, but keeping it off and staying healthy can be the long-time accomplishment.
